Young is fascinated with the relationship between maintaining one's youthful, innocent perspectives and navigating adulthood. Although we all romanticize the thought of staying young at heart, Young sees the humor in the inherent awkwardness of that dynamic. He will often depict scenarios or settings that are grounded in some sense of reality that are filtered through a dreamy cartoonish lens. Playful colorful characters indulging in mature vices or serving to represent adult concepts such as relationships, addiction, or general dissatisfaction with the world.
Young uses his work as a way to process the stimulus, inspiration, and absurdity of everyday life and find some levity along the way. His whimsical characters, bold colors, and erratic rendering styles culminate together to create an energetic body of work.
Young likens his workflow to solving a puzzle. During his work process, rough sketches of characters are constantly rearranged and manipulated in a digital composition before being realized through physical mediums.
